The Pololu 3pi+ 2040 Robot Kit w/ 30:1 MP Motors (Standard Edition Kit) is a compact, high-performance mobile platform that is based on the Raspberry Pi RP2040 MCU. This kit comprises all the necessary components to construct the Standard Edition version, inclusive of a pair of 30:1 MP 6V Micro Metal Gearmotors. The 3pi+ 2040 Robot Kit is equipped with a multitude of features such as dual quadrature encoders for closed-loop speed or position control, line sensors, front bump sensors, a comprehensive IMU (3-axis accelerometer, magnetometer, and gyro), six RGB LEDs, and a graphical OLED display. Please note that this product is a kit and assembly, which includes soldering, is necessary.
The 3pi+ 2040 Robot Kit is a versatile, high-performance, user-programmable robot with a diameter of just 9.7 cm. It is powered by a Raspberry Pi RP2040 microcontroller, a 32-bit dual-core Arm Cortex-M0+ processor running at 125 MHz, which can be programmed with C++, Arduino, or Python. The 3pi+ 2040 Robot Kit comes with 16 MB (128 Mbit) of flash memory that is preloaded with a MicroPython interpreter, allowing immediate use by simply plugging into its USB C port and editing the included example Python programs. For those who wish to customize or enhance their robots with additional peripherals, the robot’s power rails, power system controls, and microcontroller’s I/O lines can be accessed via several 0.1-inch-pitch expansion ports.
The 3pi+ 2040 Robot Kit is equipped with two H-bridge motor drivers and a variety of integrated sensors, including a pair of quadrature encoders for closed-loop motor control, a complete inertial measurement unit (3-axis accelerometer, gyro, and magnetometer), five downward-facing reflectance sensors for line-following or edge-detection, and left and right bump sensors along the front face of the robot. It also includes three on-board pushbuttons for user input, a 128×64 graphical OLED display, a buzzer, and six RGB LEDs for feedback provision.
The robot features a unique power system that operates the motors at a constant 8 V, independent of the battery charge level, ensuring the speed of the motors does not vary with the battery voltage.
